Survey: Should I change to Disqus comments?

Hello!

I need your help! I'm thinking of changing my comments to Disqus comments, and would really like your thoughts.

Why Disqus?

Mostly, I find it more interactive. If I comment on someone else's blog, unless there is a 'subscribe to comments' feature or in the case of Blogger, the 'Notify me' option is available (which it often isn't!), the only way to see any response(s) to my comment is to go back to the post in question and lordy, I cannot remember every single post I comment on. With Disqus, I get a notification of a reply to my comment, either by e-mail or from within the Disqus interface itself when logged in on anyone's blog/website.

However, I know that some people really don't like it e.g. some people report login or sign-up problems. And I wouldn't want to stop or put people off commenting on my blog. Whilst I want to foster further conversation, and for  people to be notified of my replies, I don't want to stem all conversation in the first place!

Your help

So, my question to the people who do comment on my blog (gawd love ya! thank you!), would you love, hate or be indifferent about this? I've created a wee poll down there and would loveyoulongtime if you could select one of those answers. Of course, if you have more to stay please go ahead and leave a comment.

I'm looking forward to your thoughts!

Jen

  1. I've considered this too, and for precisely the same reason - I like Disqus because it enables me to keep track of replies to my comments. BUT I have the same reservations, having had too many experiences of just not being able to leave Disqus comments (especially on my phone, for some reason). I'm also wary because I think that changing means all past comments disappear, which I'd be very sad about.

    1. Yes, I read that the comments might disappear, and then someone else said they would still exist in Blogger if you decided to remove Disqus. Lord knows which one is correct!

  2. I don't really have a preference - sometimes I can't leave Disqus comments (which is frustrating) but that doesn't happen too often (and with just a couple of blogs in particular!) but I do like the way I can keep track of who said what when. Not sure if that is of any help at all!

    1. No, that is helpful, thank you! I've not really had any problems with Disqus, but I'm not sure I've tried it on my phone very much, and I link it with my Twitter account so maybe that is why.

  3. Yeah Disqus does seem to cause me issues - although I find if I log in as my Twitter self I can leave comments. But then I don't have my blog linked to Twitter so if I wanted to get myself "out there" Disqus probably isn't the way forward.

However there's a reason a lot of people use it so switch if it's going to work for you!

    1. Yeah, I link it with my Twitter account and then don't have any problems. Good point about getting one's self "out there" too.

  4. I wondered about changing too; I like the way you can keep track of replies but I also know several people who've lost all their old comments when they switch. At the moment, I'm still undecided! :-) xx

    1. Apparently, I'm still undecided myself!

  5. I don't mind you comments format as it is cos I am too using Blogger so it suits me fine.
I have also toyed with the idea of switching to Disqus so it is more appealing to others, but I'm worried about past comments disappearing etc. I find these days, ppl will tweet me their feedback or leave comments on Instagram, and I tend to do the same cos I read blogs on my phone and commenting is such a pain on a mobile device.

    1. Yes, that seems to be the major concern; losing all of the Blogger comments you have so far. I agree mobile commenting on blogs needs to improve!

  6. Did you decide?
I switched and I do love Disqus and haven't had anyone tell me they've struggled with it BUT I did lose pretty much all of my previous comments (can still see them in Disqus but not on the blog). Which makes me look like a Billy no mates until about three months ago. This is not that far from the truth anyway.

I'd recommend the change, it's much easier as a reader.

    1. Thanks, that's very helpful! Ha. Thankfully I'm already mostly a blogger-no-mates so won't look too strange.

I might just take the plunge.
